For children from Early Childhood to Year 7, Elizabeth Downs Primary Schools is a wonderful mix of varied programs and dedicated staff & parents.

Early Childhood Learning

Elilzabeth Downs Primary School has a PlayGroup for babies to children ready to attend the Child Parent Centre. Parents attend with their child or children.

The Learning Program focuses on social skills & motor skills development; learning through play – eg painting, doing puzzles, playing with our wide selection of toys & things; playing indoors & outdoors.

  • Times:  Tuesdays  9 – 11.00am
  • Thursdays 9 – 11.00am
  • Costs:   $1.00 per child
  • $1.50 for 2 children
  • $3.00 for 3 children
  • and, $2.00 per family for the children’s Easter & Christmas party.
  • What to Bring: a piece of fruit to share at “Fruit Time”.

Elilzabeth Downs Primary School has a  Kindy or Child Parent Centre - (CPC)

Who can attend?

  • Children from the age of 4 years. Aboriginal children can start from 3 years of age.
  • There are 2 session groups.
  • The Red group session times are
  • Mondays & Tuesdays   8.45am - 12.00noon
  • Wednesdays & Thursday  1 – 3pm
  • The Blue group session times are
  • Mondays & Tuesdays   1 – 3pm
  • Wednesdays & Thursdays 8.45 – 12noon
  • Costs: $2.00 per week

The Learning Program focuses on children learning through play. During free play time; group time, Fruit-Time and outdoor play time the children are involved in a wide range of different learning activities to help them develop their creative, social, physical, thinking skills and abilities.

What to bring:

  • Fruit for sharing at Fruit Time & a cup with your child’s name.

Reception & Years 1 & 2

Children can enrol in school when they turn 5. 

The Learning Program focuses on children continuing to learn through play to develop further their literacy & numeracy skills; thinking, creating and research skills; communication skills; a positive sense of self and a confident group member and their physical skills.

The Primary Years – Years 3 – 5

In these years we focus on further developing thinking & research skills; literacy & numeracy; social & communication skills; physical skills; the ability to work independently or with a group confidently and the ability to be reflective about their learning.

The Middle School – Years 6 & 7

The learning program is structured in such a way so that the children can continue to

  • learn how to work confidently with others
  • learn to work in different ways with different teachers and with different groups
  • where the students are encouraged to make connections with a wide range of concepts and knowledge
  • develop literacy & numeracy
  • students are encouraged to take on the responsibility being the “student elders” of the school.

Across all year levels 

We focus on encouraging children to be involved in student voice to learn how to make decisions responsibly and to think about consequences of their actions for themselves & others for now and in the future.

  • developing a sense of community – in their own class; in the school as a whole and in their local neighbourhood and beyond.
  • developing a love of learning and a love for a positive, healthy life through the learning program that includes a strong values base;
  • camps and excursions; an extensive PE & sports program; literacy programs; computer programs – robotics, claymation
  • Healthy Eating program; Red Cross Breakfast Club; NACYS afterschool Kids’ Club; Aboriginal Home Work Centre and a dance program.
