In 1997 three young and enthusiastic South Aussies returned from an inspiring interstate holiday with the ridiculous idea of trying to create a youth-focused radio station in Adelaide! There were many non-believers, but the passionate trio pulled together a loyal team of young volunteers to form an association. From that initial brainwave the organisation has matured into the dynamic youth station you hear today - Fresh FM!

Fresh commenced transmitting as a Temporary Community Broadcaster on March 17, 1998. Some time after, discussions took place with 5RTI (Radio Televisione Italiana) and both parties agreed to share a frequency – 92.9mHz, which later became 92.7mHz. After what seemed like an eternity - switching from traditional Italian music to electronica every afternoon at 4pm - young Adelaide was finally rewarded with it’s very own station when the ABA (Australian Broadcasting Authority) granted the association a permanent license on August 22, 2002!

Now the most listened to community broadcaster in South Australia, according to radio research firm McNair Ingenuity Fresh FM has approximately 164,000 listeners every week who tune in to the station’s potent mash-up of youth culture. Fresh FM is the heartbeat of young Adelaide – from the city’s obsession with electronic music and the arts to the issues that affect South Australian youth on air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!!!
