Bonnibelt Belted Galloway Stud

Open 7 days a week, 24 Hours. Call us on (08) 8531 2552

Bonnibelt Belted Galloway Stud has been operating in the Murray Bridge area since 2002, but the principle manager has been working with beef and dairy cattle since he was old enough to walk.

Bonnibelt Stud is a member of the Australian Belted Galloway Association. Tony, one of the owner/managers, is the Publicity Officer for SA and assists with publicity for WA as they are only small in numbers at this stage.

Tony and Joanne Kreher started Bonnibelt Belted Galloway Stud in 2002 with a small herd of 7 black Belted Galloways, 4 cows with 3 calves.  They were then very fortunate to buy Budawang Relly, a very solid red Belted Galloway cow along with a small herd of other commercial cows to help increase their Belted Galloway crosses and their goal of being able to supply excellent quality beef at affordable prices, straight from the paddock to the plate.

How is Bonnibelt Belted Galloway Stud unique?

Bonnibelt Stud has been achieving our goals of premium grade quality beef by the use of the belted galloway genetics which are renowned for their excellent marbling qualities, their thick hides, and their tendency to produce naturally lean beef as they do not need to store subcutaneous fat to keep them warm.

Alongside the Galloways, the Belted Galloways are the highest marbling beef animal second only to the Wagyu, also known as Kobe beef.  So the Belted Galloways are not only pretty to look at, but beautiful to eat.

Since the onset of being able to supply beef, Bonnibelt Stud have self imposed a stringent quality control on our beef, for example, every animal that is sent off is assessed on it’s tenderness, marbling and flavour.

We are also firm believers in BioDynamic farming.  We are unfortunately in an area where large varieties of noxious weeds prevail and we cannot completely get away without the use of some herbicides.  We also believe in alternative therapies for any ailments that the cattle may be inflicted with, leading to some amazing results with their everyday and acute health care.

Our Products:

  • Stud Cattle sales
  • Exceptional quality beef can be bought as Sides or Mixed Quarters
  • Red and Black Belted Galloway hides starting at $450

Belted Galloways

Belted Galloways originated in the tough mountain area of Galloway, Scotland and are a hardy breed, well known for their striking white band or belt around their girth.  They come in three colours – black, red and dun.  They are known for their ease of calving, excellent maternal traits, docility, good structure, longevity and outstanding eating quality.  They are naturally polled and thrive under tough conditions.  Correctly finished carcasses often have a higher dressed weight.

Having originated in the highlands of Scotland their hairy winter coats are very attractive and are often sought after for hard wearing floor rugs or draping over the couch and make for unique conversations.
